A cooler, wetter pattern moves into LeFlore County to close out the week, with a hot weekend rebound expected before another round of rain arrives early next week.

Today (Friday): The best rain chances of the stretch arrive Friday, with a 53 percent chance of showers and a noticeably cooler high near 80.

Saturday: Rain chances ease back to 25 percent as temperatures climb to a high near 89.

Sunday: Mostly dry with a 30 percent rain chance and a high near 92 — the warmest day of the week.

Monday: A stronger system returns, bringing a 75 percent chance of rain and a cooler high near 84.

On This Date

In 1865, Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and delivered General Order No. 3, announcing that the Emancipation Proclamation had freed all enslaved people in Confederate territories. In 1953, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed at Sing Sing Prison in New York after being convicted of providing atomic bomb secrets to the Soviet Union.
